Tool Ensures Photos Meet Strict Requirements
The U.S. Department of State has launched a free online tool that allows applicants to verify if their photograph meets all the requirements for the Green Card Lottery. The DV-2025 registration period opens on October 4, 2023, and closes on November 7, 2023, at 12:00 PM EST.
To use the Green Card Photo Check tool, applicants must upload a digital photograph. The tool will then analyze the photo and provide instant feedback on whether it meets the strict requirements set by the U.S. government. These requirements include:
- The photo must be in color.
- The photo must be taken within the past six months.
- The photo must be taken against a plain white or off-white background.
- The photo must show the applicant's head and shoulders only.
- The applicant's face must be clearly visible and evenly lit.
- The applicant must have a neutral expression and their eyes must be open and fully visible.
- The applicant must not be wearing a hat or other head covering that obscures their face.
The Green Card Lottery, also known as the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, is a lottery-based system that awards 50,000 green cards to eligible applicants from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. To be eligible for the lottery, applicants must meet certain requirements, including being a native of an eligible country and having at least a high school education or its equivalent. Applicants can enter the lottery online at the U.S. Department of State's website.
